Living in SoMa
SoMa covers the blocks between Market Street and the freeway, from the Embarcadero west to about 11th. It is the most central place to live in San Francisco.
Commute: BART and Muni Metro at Montgomery, Powell, and Civic Center; Caltrain at 4th & King. Most downtown offices are a walk, not a ride.
Daily life: Yerba Buena Gardens, SFMOMA, and the Ferry Building farmers market are all inside a twenty-minute walk.
The tradeoff: block quality varies a lot street to street here more than in any other San Francisco neighborhood. Walk the block at night before signing.
